Seattle’s Gum wall.
Near Pike’s Market in Seattle, Washington, is one of those weird attractions you come across as you travel. The custom of sticking gum to this wall goes back to the early 1990’s. Patrons of the nearby Market Theatre would leave their gum on the wall as the waited in line for shows. Workers at the theatre would clean the wall but eventually gave up, they just couldn’t keep pace. After about 20 years of buildup, the wall was cleaned in 2015 and over 2000 lbs of gum was removed. We visited in 2018 and as you can see the buildup was well on its way again.
